Question 1

Which UPI app has the highest market share in India?

Accepted Answer

PhonePe leads the UPI market in India with the highest transaction volume share, followed by Google Pay and Paytm. Rankings are updated monthly based on NPCI published data.

Question 2

Where does the UPI app statistics data come from?

Accepted Answer

All UPI statistics on Rivo are sourced from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which publishes monthly app-wise UPI transaction data covering volume (number of transactions) and value (total transaction amount in crores).

Question 3

How often is the UPI data updated?

Accepted Answer

NPCI publishes UPI app-wise statistics monthly, typically with a 1–2 month lag. Rivo updates the dashboard as soon as new NPCI data is available.

Question 4

What is UPI market share and how is it calculated?

Accepted Answer

UPI market share is each app's percentage of total UPI transactions (by volume) across all NPCI-registered UPI apps in a given month. For example, a 40% market share means the app processed 40 out of every 100 UPI transactions.

Question 5

What merchant categories are available in the UPI MCC breakdown?

Accepted Answer

The UPI merchant category breakdown (MCC) shows spending across categories such as Grocery, Utilities, Fuel, Education, Healthcare, Food & Beverage, Travel, and more — all derived from NPCI's merchant category code data.
